The Honeycomb 21-Day Devotional

A Word Before You Begin…

This devotional is not about getting better at faith. It’s about slowing down long enough to notice what’s already happening in you.

Over the next 21 days, you’ll be invited to pause, reflect, and take small steps that fit into real life. There’s nothing to keep up with and nothing to prove.

At Mt. Zion, we believe something simple and steady: you are seen by God, you matter, and you belong - no matter what you’re dealing with.

We call it the honeycomb...

     So come as you are.

     Read at your own pace.

     Stay with what rises.

     That’s enough.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Martin D. Odom

Mt. Zion Church of Baltimore

Be Seen. Belong. Be Involved.

Closing Word

This wasn’t about doing more.

It was about becoming more grounded.

Carry what you’ve noticed with you.

Return to these practices when you need them.

You are not alone.

You are valued.

You are part of this.

Day 21 - WELCOME TO THE HONEYCOMB

Romans 12:4–5 (NRSV) - “For as in one body we have many members… so we, who are many, are one body in Christ.”

Reflection: Over these past weeks, you’ve slowed down. You’ve noticed yourself. You’ve stayed connected. You’ve begun to move with intention. This is what life together looks like. Different people. Different gifts. One body.

At Mt. Zion, involvement doesn’t mean losing yourself. It means bringing who you are into shared life.

Day 20 - LOVE LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING

John 3:18 (NRSV) - “Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.”

Reflection: Love is not abstract. It takes shape. It looks like patience. It looks like generosity. It looks like showing up again. You don’t need grand gestures.

Love often shows itself in small, faithful acts. What matters is that it’s real.

Pause Practice: Take a breath. Say quietly, “Let my love be visible.”

Honeycomb Prompt: Express love today in a tangible

Day 19 - YOU DON’T HAVE TO FIX EVERYTHING

Romans 12:18 (NRSV) - “If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

Reflection: Some of us feel responsible for making everything right. That weight gets heavy. This verse sets a boundary. As far as it depends on you.

You are invited to participate, not to carry the whole world. Involvement is faithfulness, not control. Do your part. Release the rest.

Pause Practice: Exhale slowly. Say quietly, “This doesn’

Day 18 - STAY ALIGNED

James 2:17 (NRSV) - “So, faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.”

Reflection: Involvement isn’t about being busy. It’s about being aligned. When faith moves into action, it doesn’t drain us - it grounds us. Alignment feels different than obligation. It has clarity. It has peace.

Pay attention to what gives life instead of taking it. That’s often where God is inviting you to move.

Pause Practice: Breathe slowly. Ask quietly, “What feels aligned?” No

Day 17 - SHOWING UP COUNTS

Luke 10:33 (NRSV) - “But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity.”

Reflection: The Samaritan didn’t solve everything. He showed up. He noticed.

He stopped. He responded.

Involvement often begins with proximity - being close enough to see, and present enough to care. Showing up counts. Even when you don’t have the right words. Even when you can’t stay long.

Pause Practice: Take a breath. Say quietly, “I ca

Day 16 - WHAT YOU HAVE IS ENOUGH

John 6:9 (NRSV) - “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish…”

Reflection: We often hold back because we think we don’t have enough. Enough time. Enough energy. Enough confidence.

But God has always worked with what’s already in people’s hands. The miracle doesn’t begin with abundance. It begins with offering. You don’t have to wait until you have more. What you have right now is enough to begin.

Pause Practice: Place your han

Day 15 - YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING

Micah 6:8 (NRSV) - “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Reflection: Involvement doesn’t mean doing everything. It means doing something faithful. This verse doesn’t list a hundred expectations. It names a way of living.

     Justice.

     Kindness.

     Humility.

     Simple.

Not easy - but simple. You are not being asked to carry more than your share. You are being

Day 14 - NOT PERFECT. PRESENT.

Acts 2:44 (NRSV) - “All who believed were together and had all things in common.”

Reflection: Belonging is not about being impressive. It’s about being present.

The early church didn’t gather because everyone had it together. They gathered because they needed one another. That’s still true. You don’t have to be perfect here. You just have to show up as you are. And that is more than enough.

Pause Practice: Sit quietly. Say softly, “I am here.”

Day 13 - STAY CONNECTED

Hebrews 10:24–25 (NRSV) - “Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds…”

Reflection: Connection doesn’t require constant closeness. It requires intention. Belonging grows when we stay connected even when life gets busy, even when we’re tired. You don’t have to do everything. You just have to stay reachable. Connection is not pressure. It’s presence.

Pause Practice: Take a breath. Ask quietly, “Where do I need to stay connected?”

Day 12 - THERE IS ROOM FOR YOU

Romans 15:7 (NRSV) - “Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you…”

Reflection: Some spaces make you feel like you’re taking up too much room. Like you should shrink. Or hurry past what you’re carrying. This is not that kind of space. Christ’s welcome doesn’t come with conditions. And neither does belonging here. There is room for your questions. Room for your weariness.

Room for your becoming. You don’t have to earn your pla

Day 11 - YOU MATTER TO THE BODY

1 Corinthians 12:18 (NRSV) - “But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.”

Reflection: It’s easy to feel replaceable. Like your presence doesn’t really matter. This verse says otherwise. You are not an extra. You are not unnecessary. You are not overlooked.

The body needs you, not because of what you do, but because of who you are.

Your presence matters here.

Your voice matters here.

Pause Practice: Place you

Day 10 - YOU DON’T HAVE TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING

Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 (NRSV) - “Two are better than one… For if they fall, one will lift up the other.”

Reflection: Some relationships require a lot of explaining. Why you feel the way you do. Why you’re tired. Why this is hard. Belonging feels different. Belonging doesn’t interrogate your pain. It sits with it. Here, you don’t have to tell the whole story. You don’t have to justify where you are. You’re allowed to be where you are

Day 9 - SOMEONE KNOWS YOUR NAME

Romans 12:5 (NRSV) - “So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.”

Reflection: Belonging isn’t about being surrounded by people. It’s about being known. Someone knowing your name matters. Someone noticing when you’re missing matters. Someone checking in matters. This is how the body works. Not through perfection. Through connection.

At Mt. Zion, belonging doesn’t mean everyone knows everything ab

Day 8 - YOU DON'T HAVE TO CARRY THIS BY YOURSELF

Galatians 6:2 (NRSV) - “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Reflection: Some burdens are heavy not because they’re impossible, but because you’ve been carrying them alone. We learn early how to manage. How to keep moving. How not to need too much. This verse doesn’t ask you to explain your burden. It assumes you have one. Belonging begins when you realize you were never meant to car
